The Setting

How best to show off her diamond

An engagement ring must fit the woman as well as it fits her finger. It should be a reflection of who she is as well as an embodiment of your commitment to each other. While some settings may be more appropriate than others for specific diamond shapes, ultimately the decision comes down to personal taste.

The Claw Setting

This is the most popular for a variety of reasons. The setting features claws that cradle the diamond, presenting the diamond in all of its brilliance! The claw setting allows the maximum amount of light to enter a diamond from all angles.

The Bar or Semi Rub setting

This setting features a bar or circular band that holds the diamond or which may be shared between two or more diamonds. This type of setting combines a contemporary look while still revealing the diamond in all of its beauty.

The Bezel or Rub setting

With a bezel or rub setting, a rim holds and completely surrounds the diamond. Bezels can have straight edges, scalloped edges, or can be moulded into any shape to accommodate the diamond. The backs can be opened or closed. Rub settings tend to have a more contemporary look.

The Channel setting

Used most frequently for wedding and anniversary rings, a channel setting will set the diamonds right next to each other with no metal separating them. The outer ridge of metal is then worked over the edges of the diamonds. This protects the edge of each diamonds (called the “girdle”) and provides a smooth exterior surface.

The Tension setting

A tension-set diamond is held in place by the pressure of the band's metal, which is designed to "squeeze" the diamond. The result is a highly contemporary, fashionable look – but one that must be worn with care!

The Cluster setting

This setting surrounds a larger centre diamond with several smaller diamonds. It is designed to create a beautiful larger ring from many smaller diamonds. The diamonds can be held by claws or can be rub or bezel set to achieve the desired look.
